The images of the young ballerina, Marianna, were photographed when she was 12 at the National Ballet of Riga, Latvia in 1994 while Sadan was traveling for several months though Eastern Europe photographing and conduction interviews for the book Light through Iron Veils to be published by the Baha'i Publishing Trust of Great Britain.
These are but a few of the extensive images in the B/W and color that Sadan has of the dancer which were photographed at the same schoool that Baryshnikov and Gudonov studies as young people. Sadan also has extensive images from the same school of an entire class from his first visit in 1989 for a large exhibit of his photographs at teh invitation of the National Photographic Art Society. This exhibit then toured the entire Soviet Union for two years. A symbolic circle was completed in the Sadan's paternal grandparents as newlyweds in the 1890's came to the States from Riga.
The images of Marianna are typical of the passionate and sensitive collaboration that exists between Sadan and those he works with and cares for as both an artist and friend.
